What is an eSIM?
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card permanently integrated into your device's hardware. Unlike a physical SIM card that you insert and remove, an eSIM profile is downloaded digitally — typically by scanning a QR code — and the entire process takes under five minutes.
For travelers, this represents a fundamental shift in how mobile connectivity works. Instead of hunting for a phone shop upon arrival in each new country, you can purchase and install a regional European plan before you leave home — arriving with data already active.
A single regional European eSIM plan can cover 30 or more countries, automatically connecting to the best available local network as you cross each border.
Activation Steps

Choosing a Plan
| Factor | What to Check |
|---|---|
| Coverage | Verify all your destinations are included |
| Data volume | Tourist: 5–10GB · Nomad: 20–30GB+ |
| Validity | When does the clock start? |
| Hotspot | Check fair use policy for tethering |
| Network tier | Tier 1 partners = better speeds |
Dual SIM Setup
Dual SIM is the ideal setup for travelers: use your home physical SIM for calls and texts (keeping your number reachable), and the travel eSIM for data (cost-effective local rates).
Configure in Settings → Cellular: set travel eSIM as default data, home SIM as default for calls.
eSIM in Europe
Europe is one of the best regions for eSIM use. All EU member states have strong 4G coverage, with 5G expanding rapidly in major cities. Regional plans cover 30–50 countries with automatic network switching at each border.
